Family Sponsorship

Canadian citizens and permanent residents (PR), of at least 18 years old, can welcome certain immediate relatives to study, work and obtain their PR, in Canada. They do this through sponsorship.

Here are some of the eligibility requirements to become a sponsor:

You need to be a citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
You need to be at least 18 years old
You are living in Canada or planning to live in Canada once your relatives immigrate

In addition, as a sponsor, you must fulfill other requirements such as:

You should prove that you are financially capable of supporting your sponsored relative (financial capability is not needed for some relatives such as spouses)
You should not be bankrupt
You should not be under a removal order for your permanent residency status
